We have introduced a discussion area to our website. Here you can comment on our talks and competitions and ask for or offer help.

To use the forum click on the link on our website menu and register with the forum (this only takes a few moments). You can then post new topics, respond to other member's postings and send private e-mails.

As of mid June the PhotoForum has been upgraded. Navigation should be simpler, the appearance cleaner,  and there is a new front page to tell you about new posts.

There is also a brand new photo Gallery for you to post your pictures.

If you have any questions about the forum then post it as a new topic, or email me!

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT, AGM, 7 APRIL 2008 (abbreviated)

Let me open with a progression of numbers!

18    28    29    35    43    46

What should be the next number?  Well, it is not intended to be mathematical.  It represents the membership numbers of this Society over the last 6 years.  So its progression is up to us to make next season another great success.  [For interest, average attendance figures are around 65 %.]

During the Summer of 2007 we made our final purchase under the Awards for All scheme, with the Nikon D40x camera.   This was put to good use in providing real time digital projection of competition prints using Camera Control Pro software, quite an innovation in photographic circles it seems.  However we now recognise some of  the shortcomings in the projected image and aim to make improvements for next season.

We have seen a further decline in transparencies in our competitions and we are approaching the time when they will be fully replaced by the digitally projected image.  Our trials with the new medium gave us an insight into the controls required, and it must be said that the first ever digital image projection part of the 3-way competition, which we hosted in March, was flawless in execution and a credit to this society.

The emphasis placed on Photoshop Elements (rather than P/S 7 or CS2) in our Members’ Evenings has clearly been a great success, judged both by their popularity and by the resurgence of entry level prints in the competitions.  There were also very favourable comments on the “Presentation of Prints” and “Know your camera” events.  I acknowledge and applaud the time and effort spent by all the session leaders on research, preparation and presentation.

This report cannot finish without giving my thanks to all the Committee for their untiring work and to you the members for supporting the Society, not forgetting those who have willingly assisted with room preparation, the refreshments and door duty.  We look forward to seeing you all again next season.
